Aberdeen Airport November passenger numbers up 4.3%
The helicopter operation saw growth of 3% whilst the numbers on fixed-wing flights grew by 4.5%,
Carol Benzie, the airport MD was reflecting on another year of strong growth at the airport. She said: “I am delighted to look back over 2014 and see growth across the board in every month. We are hopeful that the numbers for December, when they are released, will make equally positive reading and will show we have had a full year of steady growth. This reflects well on the whole region and shows our resilience.
“2014 has been full of highlights. These include the introduction of new routes such as Faro and Geneva (which starts on Saturday), plus airline developments including Flybe picking up the London City flights and re-establishing their Aberdeen base. We have seen dramatic changes in the terminal this year: the introduction of new check-in desks, new common-user check in kiosks, a brand new vestibule, a new look for our landside stores and the introduction of a new coffee bar facility.
"We have seen growing interest in our property portfolio with an increasing number of companies wanting to do business alongside the airport, whilst we have also seen the wider airport city expanding rapidly with nearby developments. On the airfield our teams have been working incredibly hard to accommodate the increase in numbers and flights, to continually promote safety, to upgrade the infrastructure and to work alongside the regulators to make sure Aberdeen is at the forefront of new developments.
“All of that is not to say that 2015 won’t be without its challenges. We watch developments on the international markets, with interest in particular if the decline in the oil price continues. We also know that as work ramps up on our terminal transformation project we will face operational hurdles to keep the passenger flow running smoothly.
“We are looking forward to starting the New Year under the umbrella of new ownership and are excited about what the coming 12 months will bring.”
