Vueling to launch Barcelona route from Manchester Airport

Vueling, the Barcelona-based airline, part of International Airlines Group (IAG), is set to launch a direct service to Barcelona from Manchester Airport on 19th June 2015.

The flight will depart Manchester on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday flying to Terminal 1 at Barcelona El Prat Airport, which is Vueling’s main hub.

The route will be operated by an Airbus A320, with capacity for 180 passengers. Tickets for flights on these routes can now be booked on the Vueling.com website or through the mobile app.

Ken O’Toole Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airports Group (MAG), said: “We are pleased to welcome Vueling to Manchester Airport and look forward to the airline providing further choice and options for our customer looking to fly to and from Barcelona.

Julio Rodriguez, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) said: “Vueling is one of Europe’s leading low fare carriers and this new route to Barcelona, means passengers from Manchester will be able to visit this top destination during the summer but also reach our other 140 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa with our connecting flights.”

Vueling was founded in July, 2004 with two Airbus A320s, four routes, and a commitment to offer excellent customer service at highly competitive fares. Ten years later Vueling is part of IAG group and is operating on more than 300 routes to 160 cities in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with a fleet of more than 100 aircraft and 22 operating bases. In its first decade it carried more than 75 million passengers.

Manchester Airport, the UK’s third biggest airport, has recently announced a return to 22 million annual passengers, a figure not seen at the global gateway since 2007. It offers over 210 destinations served by 65 airlines and this route sees four carriers offer a Barcelona service from Manchester Airport.
