QinetiQ awarded Defence Equipment and Support contract

QinetiQ is to provide independent technical expertise and consultation advice to Defence Equipment & Support's (DE&S) Operational Support Programmes (OSP) Project Team.

Above: The contract will help ensure the safety of troops and promote value-for-money for the taxpayer.

The 12 month contract, worth £2.4m, has the option for extensions for three further years and spans 12 projects in OSP, addressing frontline challenges such as the supply of water, fuel and power and the operation of support vehicles.

Under the contract, QinetiQ will provide technical evidence to underpin the business cases that justify the procurement of future operational support capabilities.

QinetiQ will support OSP in defining the requirements of its end users, assessing the potential solutions, and identifying the investments most effective in meeting the challenges.

QinetiQ, operating as the prime contractor, has teamed with PA Consulting, Frazer-Nash Consulting, Roke Manor Research and BAE Systems to deliver the programme.

Steve Elwell, Director for QinetiQ Procurement Advisory Services, said: “We have put together a winning team to deliver this flagship programme, which builds on our long-standing relationship with the OSP Project Team and other delivery teams across DE&S.

“We deliver a world-class advisory capability to our clients by providing broad-ranging capabilities including concept of analysis, cost modelling and risk management, strategic benefits analysis and through life management support.

“It is the independent thinking and technical expertise our scientists and engineers that helps provide our customers with the confidence to make decisions.”

Col Doug Gibson, DE&S Deputy Head Operational Support Programmes, said: “This FATS contract establishes a single arrangement to secure required technical deliverable support with the aim of improving timeliness, quality and consistency. The technical expertise provided is critical to help define and manage requirements, to source and manage suitable industry sub-suppliers, and to underpin the procurement and support of safe systems which can provide the required capability at a cost that represents value-for-money to the tax-payer.”
