Atkins hosts component sourcing resilience workshop

Atkins has announced that it will be holding a free workshop in association with LSC Group looking at component sourcing resilience, taking place on 29 October in Aztec West, Bristol - particularly timely as the new EU REACH Directive will have an impact on every supply chain.

The workshop will enable participants to improve their understanding of the risks of component sourcing interruptions and the development of a coherent strategy to promote component sourcing resilience as part of an overall support and business continuity strategy.

David Young at Atkins said: “The risk of obsolescence, especially within high value technically advanced equipment, is a critical consideration for any manufacturer or operator. Although awareness of this issue is being raised across many industries, there are additional risks of supply chain interruption that are not being consistently addressed. Some of these risks involve future legislation, such as the EU REACH Directive and the potential future effects of the UK BIS circular economy initiatives. Others include supply chain disruption due to environmental issues and the introduction of counterfeit components or supplier bankruptcy.

“Despite these risk, less than 10% of companies have any coherent strategy in place to address all the potential causes of supply chain disruption.”
