Babcock wins naval equipment support contracts
Under each of these ‘Spares Inclusive Upkeep’ contracts, Babcock will provide and repair complete new units and assemblies, spares, and spares inclusive maintenance and will, where required, provide technical assistance (including post-design services) to MET to assist resolution of obsolescence issues and allow technical update, upgrade and/or modification. New assets and spares will be delivered within an agreed lead time and maintenance provided within an agreed turnaround time.
Under the Meters & Gauges contract, Babcock’s role relates to equipment such as pressure transducers, thermometers, fluid level and pressure gauges, and instrumentation for a range of warship and submarine classes. Under the Atmosphere Monitoring Equipment contract, equipment such as sensors, gas monitors and test kits will be supplied to a range of naval platforms.
In bidding for these contracts Babcock was subject to a Contractor Capability Assessment (making up 48% of the award criteria), whereby Babcock had to demonstrate a range of skills and capabilities including supply chain management, technical expertise, configuration management, obsolescence management, and more.
Commenting on the contract awards, Babcock Business Development Director, John Stratton said: “We are delighted to have been awarded these two contracts, which will be managed and delivered alongside our other naval equipment contracts including pumps, ropes, compressors, firefighting equipment, domestic equipment and electrical components, among others. We are proud of our proven performance in this area, and welcome the opportunity to continue to demonstrate the value of our asset management expertise to support the MoD and Royal Navy.”
The MET programme seeks to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the equipment management role and support solutions, to deliver improved performance and value for money. The MET team works closely with the Class Output Management and In-Service Submarine teams to support all legacy and, as appropriate, future warship and submarine platforms in the fleet. Babcock will provide support to the MET team to deliver these MET contracts.
