Canberra PR9 will be joined by two Hawker Hunter T7s
Midair Squadron display partners Canberra PR9 (XH134) and Hunter XL577 will be accompanied by Hunter XL573 for Festival of Flight in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. This is the first time these vintage jet aircraft will perform with all three aircraft in matching silver livery.
The Midair Squadron’s second Hunter, XL600, is undergoing a thorough maintenance programme which is taking slightly longer than anticipated due to the Squadron’s unprecedented booking schedule for the Canberra and Hunter this season. En route to Newcastle this weekend, the Midair Squadron will overfly where the Canberra’s sister, XH131, stands proud in the Ulster Aviation Society’s collection at Long Kesh. Following the type’s retirement, XH131 was donated to the Ulster Aviation Society by Midair Squadron owner, Mike Davis, and was transported by road to the Society’s base in 2010 as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) support project to conserve and explore the heritage of the aircraft.
Midair Squadron owner, Mike Davis, comments “The launch of the Squadron with our XL600 aircraft will be a spectacular sight that we’re all very much looking forward to. This weekend’s display at Festival of Flight will give an insight into what air show audiences can expect to see from the Midair Squadron when our official three ship launches with our Hunter XL600.”
