Cassidian to highlight emergency response comms at BAPCO 2013

Cassidian - the security and defence division of EADS - will be showing its secure radio communications and IT solutions at BAPCO in Manchester this week (29-30 April).

The company is keen to bring its expertise in this area to bear in the UK market helping its customers migrate safely to future technologies, such as IP and LTE, with experts helping to explain how and when to achieve smooth migration to broadband technology, how to support major integration projects and understand Cassidian's cyber heritage.

Cassidian will be showing its mission critical digital radio solutions and a broad portfolio of innovative terminals based on TETRA which can be used in the field of emergency response. These solutions include the world’s smallest TETRA terminal, the TH1N, which recently won the Best TETRA Enterprise Product at the 2013 International TETRA Awards held in the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden last month (21 March).

In this category, the judges were looking for products that best utilise the capabilities that TETRA has to offer. All of the products nominated had to offer a wide range of features and be easy to use, including within a broad spectrum of critical communications scenarios. Five products from different companies were shortlisted in this category.

“We are delighted to have received this award, which is the ultimate recognition of the excellence of our products,” said Jean-Marc Nasr, head of secure communication solutions at Cassidian.

“This win manifests the fact that Cassidian is widely respected for the performance of its products.”

“Our TH1n terminal is the first in a completely new class of pocket-sized TETRA radios. It has generated lots of customer interest from the Public Safety sector and in the industry all over the world and has already been delivered to a number of customers since we launched it last year in Dubai,” said Pierre Lopez, head of terminals & indirect channels business management at Cassidian. “It was used for the first time by security staff during the Munich Security Conference in February. It is the smallest and lightest TETRA radio device in the world, which makes the TH1n particularly suited to covert use.”

The completely new form allows the TH1n to be carried in new ways. Small enough to be slipped into a pocket clip holder, a shoulder holster or a carry case with a neck strap, it can also be carried in belt and lapel-mounted holsters. This makes it ideal for many different users, including those who have found it difficult to find a radio of the right size and weight to fit their needs, those who wear business clothing or light uniforms rather than weatherproof gear, and those who need to be discrete in their operational missions.

The annual International TETRA Awards – a collaboration between TETRA Today magazine and the TETRA + Critical Communications Association (TCCA) – were established to celebrate the achievements of TETRA manufacturers and users. Split into seven different categories, the awards have been designed to recognise excellence in the field of TETRA radio communications. The judges, who are located all over the globe, cast their votes and the TETRA Awards unveiled a shortlist of entries last December.

Cassidian provides professional mobile radio communication (PMR/LMR), emergency call taking (9-1-1/112) and emergency notification for the civil and military markets, delivering secure managed network services in the UK for 20 years.

British APCO (BAPCO) is an independent user led, professional members association formed to promote the use and development of communications and information management for public safety professionals and is a self-governing member of APCO Global Alliance which brings together like minded public safety professionals worldwide. It organises an annual exhibition with professional development workshops, now in its fifteenth year.
