EasyJet expands Scottish network with Glasgow to Milan service

The new year round service, which is expected to carry 26,000 annually, commences on 2 December 2015 and is Glasgow's first direct connection to Milan. Flights will operate twice weekly on Wednesday's and Saturday's.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s Head of Scotland, said: "As Scotland’s largest airline we are pleased to further strengthen our network with the announcement of this new route to Milan Malpensa. We believe that this will prove a popular addition to our existing network.

Francois Bourienne, commercial director at Glasgow Airport, said: “This is yet further good news from easyJet. Both Milan and Glasgow are economic powerhouses in their own right and the new direct service will undoubtedly prove extremely popular. Not only will it provide Scottish passengers with the opportunity to visit one of Europe’s top citybreak destinations, it has huge potential to generate significant in-bound tourism for Glasgow and the West of Scotland. We have enjoyed tremendous success in strengthening our links with European cities in recent months. In June, easyJet launched direct flights to Bordeaux which, like Milan, was a first for Glasgow Airport.”

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “This is a welcome announcement by easyJet which further demonstrates the airline’s commitment to Glasgow. Italy is Glasgow’s eighth largest international market with 15,000 trips made each year by Italian visitors who generate some £4 million for the city’s economy. This new route presents us with even greater scope to grow in-bound European leisure and business tourism. From one cutting-edge city to another, we look forward to welcoming Milanese travellers to our style mile.”
