Europe's airports report 4.6% July passenger traffic growth
The report is the only air transport report which includes the full range of civil aviation passenger flights: network, low cost, charter and others.
Passenger traffic at Europe’s airports grew by +4.6% compared with July 2013. More specifically, passenger growth at airports in the EU reported a robust result of +4.0% year-on-year. However passenger traffic at non-EU airports in Europe (including Iceland, Israel, Norway, Russia, Switzerland & Turkey), rose by a more impressive +6.3% over the same period.
Meanwhile, freight traffic reported soft growth of +3.0%, a dip from higher growth in previous months. Finally, the growth in aircraft movements (+2.6%) points to a steady increase in airline seat capacity.
Olivier Jankovec (right), Director General, ACI EUROPE commented “Air traffic has kept outperforming economic growth in Europe in July, notably in the EU. That said, there are significant divergences between national markets. While Mediterranean countries have generally registered solid growth in passenger traffic along with Romania, Hungary, Ireland and the UK, the performance of other countries including France, Germany, Poland and Finland has been disappointing. Traffic continues to grow very dynamically in non-EU markets, although at a slower pace due to worsening geopolitical tensions in Ukraine, Russia and Israel.”
Airports welcoming more than 25 million passengers per year (Group 1), airports welcoming between 10 and 25 million passengers (Group 2), airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million passengers (Group 3) and airports welcoming less than 5 million passengers per year (Group 4) reported an average adjustment of +4.8%, +6.2%, +1.3% and +4.5%.
The airports which reported the highest increases in passenger traffic are as follows:
GROUP 1: Moscow DME (+13.7%), Antalya AYT (+8.8%),
