FIA 2012: After busy week Farnborough gears up for weekend spectacular

The show started on an extremely positive note as the Prime Minister, David Cameron, officially opened the event and on Wednesday, Virgin boss, Sir Richard Branson introduced the UK to the future of space travel with the Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two.
While the weather may have caused some disruption and cancellation at other large outdoor events, the Farnborough International Airshow has run smoothly for its exhibitors and visitors alike with plenty of business taking place and all aircraft displaying.
Over 50 aircraft will be on static display across the coming weekend and together with a range of exhilarating rides, interactive exhibits, prototype cars, flight simulators, extreme sports demonstrations and restaurants and cafes to suit every taste, the 48th Farnborough International Airshow promises to be an unbeatable family day out, with children allowed to go in free.
The star of the show will of course be the five hour flying spectacular. This year sees two jet teams display – the Red Arrows and the Breitling Jet team – as well as other aerobatic treats from The Blades, solo pilot Mark Jeffries and the Breitling wing walkers. The roar and thunder of military fighter jets will set hearts racing as they fly over Farnborough and the opportunity to see the only flying Avro Vulcan is one not to be missed.
Speaking about the show, Shaun Ormrod, Chief Executive at Farnborough International Ltd said: "It’s been an amazing start to the week and we’re now looking forward to the public weekend. We know people travel from all over the world to come to the Farnborough Airshow and we’re delighted to welcome them all. It may not be the best summer in terms of the weather, but with the Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics, we’re proud that the Farnborough Airshow will play its part in this historic season. Come rain or shine, we promise it will be a great day out. The show will be running this weekend as scheduled and for those visitors arriving by car we have plenty of hard standing car parking areas."
