FIA strategic vision unveiled

Airshow organisers, Farnborough International Ltd (FIL), today revealed plans for the development of the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) that will maintain the event's standing as a leading global trade event.

Located on the TAG Farnborough Aerodrome site in Hampshire, UK, the development plans include the transformation of the site into a world-class venue for the airshow and a diversified exhibition and events venue.

Working with Terence O’Rourke Ltd, the strategic vision for FIA has been in development since 2009 with the objective to continue the long term growth and prosperity of the FIA brand, champion the UK Aerospace Industry, promote international trade and to make a contribution to the regional and national economies. The development plans will see the construction of permanent A Row chalets and Hall 1 - delivering a much awaited departure from temporary structures - and new hard standing areas. The permanent chalet buildings on A Row will be fit for purpose, offering greater benefits to customers including reduced fit-out costs, on-site parking and permanent mains power, water and waste facilities.

The new Hall 1 will provide state-of-the-art conference and exhibition facilities and is due to start construction after the airshow in 2014. The new centre will not only provide an enhanced visitor/exhibitor experience but will also become the only significant event venue servicing the South East outside the M25.

FIL has already been awarded £2.5M funding from Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership allowing FIL to push forward with the A Row Chalet project (subject to the necessary due diligence and approvals). Construction is due to start later in the year with completion in time for FIA in July 2014. The funding, together with FIL’s own capital investment will see approximately £5m invested into the facilities on site in the run-up to the 2014 Airshow.

Speaking about the site development, Shaun Ormrod (right), FIL chief executive said, “FIA has become one of the largest exhibitions in the world for the global aviation community and we want to maintain our leading position. With new airshows developing around the world, we are determined to ensure FIA continues to offer unrivalled facilities for exhibitors and visitors alike. Our vision is to create a ‘home’ for our exhibitors and these development plans will achieve this objective.”

Speaking at the Paris Airshow, Sir Gerald Howarth, MP for Aldershot (FIA’s constituency home), said: “FIA is a real asset to both the UK and the region. It is a major contributor to the local economy and showcase for the UK aerospace business which continues to be a world leader. The development plans for the FIA site will not only enhance the venue for the all visitors but also create an excellent exhibition and venue space for the wider business community - a real plus for the region.”
