Finmeccanica confirms continued commitment to Farnborough Airshow

Finmeccanica, Italy's leading manufacturer in the high technology sector and a global player in the aerospace, defence and security sectors, has confirmed its continued commitment to the Farnborough International Airshow with the signing of an agreement to participate at the show up to 2014, with an option after this year's show to extend it to 2016.

The agreement comes just months after EADS confirmed it would participate in the next three Airshows up to 2016, and further reflects the importance of the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) as a major event at which to showcase the latest in aviation technology to a worldwide audience.

Finmeccanica has had a presence at FIA since 2004 and in 2006, occupying the area now known as ‘Finmeccanica Corner’ which is easily recognised by its prominent red and white structure near the main entrance to the site. By securing longer-term commitment from such key exhibitors, Airshow organiser, Farnborough International Ltd (FIL), is able to build on its future plans for the development of the Airshow site. These include new, larger aircraft aprons and tailor-made or permanent exhibition areas that will enable exhibitors to consolidate their exhibiting and hospitality activities, whilst being positioned in close proximity to their aircraft or large outdoor exhibits.

Commenting on the agreement, Marco Conte, SVP Communications and Image for Finmeccanica, said: “FIA continues to be one of the leading aerospace events with the sheer number of companies and countries involved, civil and military authorities, visitor numbers and above all the number and range of transactions concluded. The event plays a strategic role in our calendar and our continued presence here is of key importance in representing the Group’s industrial excellence and image.”

FIL Chief Executive, Shaun Ormrod added: “The development of partnerships with key exhibitors will allow us to invest in the future of the Farnborough International Airshow, and enable the show to maintain its status and track record as a major worldwide event to do business. We are delighted to have the support of Finmeccanica for this vision for the future.”
