Four SC21 winners receive awards

SC21 - a programme accelerating the competitiveness of the Aerospace, Defence & Security (ADS) industries by raising the performance of supply chains - recently recognised the commitment of four companies to the scheme with the presentation of their awards at the recent Task Force event held in Bristol last week.

The four companies - Arrowsmith Eng. (Coventry), High Tech Engineering, Norcott Technologies Ltd and Universal Wiring Systems - were among eleven companies that are clients of DB Concept Solutions, winning two Silver and nine Bronze awards, including Norcott Technologies and Jack Tighe, both of whom received an award for the first time.

Amongst the companies gaining re-submission awards were High Tech Engineering and TTI Group (Letchworth) both with Silver, plus Universal Wiring Systems, Arrowsmith Engineering, TTI (Cheltenham), Pre-Met, SpringCo, FSL Aerospace and Fourmasters, all of whom were gaining re-recognition at Bronze level.

The programme is free to sign up for but award recognition is only given to companies achieving and maintaining agreed criteria in terms of delivery, quality, sustainable improvement and the associated improvement frameworks (business and manufacturing excellence).

The four companies who received their awards in Bristol were all keen to talk about their achievements and sing the praises of the SC21 programme.

Electrical design and manufacturing specialists Norcott Technologies Ltd, which was joining the roll of honour for the very first time, within a year of signing up, went on record via Quality Manager Dave Forster who stated: “We are extremely pleased to receive this award and would like to thank Dave Bull and Jeremy Bell (of DB Concept Solutions) for the help and support they have provided over the last year. Norcott is, of course, looking towards gaining the Silver award in 2017.”

Andy Routledge, Managing Director of Universal Wiring Systems, which produces electrical wiring systems for Aerospace, Defence and Security said: “This is a fantastic achievement for all our staff and I would like to formally thank all of our customers who have supported us in this process. With every passing day our services are improving; our processes are improving; and our people are improving.”

Andy Borg, TTI Group’s managing director, said: “TTI Group is delighted to be able to demonstrate our continued commitment to the SC21 program, a key industry venture for aerospace, through the achievement of this Bronze award at our Cheltenham site. Plus our Letchworth branch is the only process house to achieve SC21 Silver status.”

West Midlands based Arrowsmith Engineering Ltd, who have been applying the principles of SC21 since 2008, was represented by managing director Jason Aldridge who was also keen to praise the programme. “Arrowsmith is very pleased to have retained the SC21 Award. Aerospace is a hard industry in which to be an SME and this certification acknowledges our successful performance over 12 months to key worldwide companies. It is a unique award as it is agreed by all our major customers and it is for this reason that Arrowsmith believe it gives real kudos to receive it.”

Special mention should also be made of High Tech Engineering, a specialist precision engineering company based in Houghton Regis, which has now achieved SC21 Silver for a record breaking seventh year in a row. Company managing director, Steve Tickner proudly commented: “To be the first company in the UK to achieve seven consecutive SC21 silver awards is a huge credit to everyone here. Actively engaging SC21 has revolutionised the way we operate, and has embedded a culture for improvement throughout the business. It is without question one of the best management decisions we have ever made.”

A proud Dave Bull, director of DB Concept Solutions explains: “By achieving these awards, the companies gain recognition from the industry for their commitment to maximise their own effectiveness and the achievement of excellent customer service - right first time and on-time every time. As a training organisation specialising in aerospace and defence, we know the years of hard work and perseverance that go into achieving this. We congratulate all our clients on completing these award milestones on their SC21 journeys and are very proud to see so many of our clients recognised in this way during 2015.”
