Glasgow Airport Director scoops top award

The managing director of Glasgow Airport has been named as one of the winners of the Baird of Bute Society's annual awards.

Amanda McMillan (right) received the society’s award for aviation at the organisation’s annual awards dinner in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute on Friday.

The Baird of Bute Society was founded to inspire others to follow in the footsteps of Bute blacksmith Andrew Blain Baird, who undertook Scotland’s first heavier-than-air powered flight at Ettrick Bay in September 1910 in an aircraft he designed and built himself.

Craig Clark, founder of Glasgow-based company Clyde Space – the company which built Scotland’s first satellite which launched from Russia in July, also received an award for innovation.

Amanda McMillan said: “To receive the Baird of Bute Society’s Scottish Aviation Award is a tremendous honour. I have always counted myself very lucky to be the MD of Glasgow Airport and to lead such a wonderful team who work tirelessly to ensure the airport continues, and in accepting this award I hope I can play a small part in keeping his memory alive.”
