Heathrow closes runway after BA plane fire
BA said: "The BA762, Heathrow to Oslo service, returned to Heathrow shortly after take-off due to a technical fault.
"The aircraft landed safely and we are currently caring for our customers.
"We will be carrying out a full investigation into the incident."
According to BBC News, witnesses reported seeing flames and black smoke coming from the engine of the Airbus A319 aircraft, which was reportedly carrying 75 passengers.
In a statement, Heathrow Airport said: "The northern runway is currently closed following an earlier aircraft incident. All passengers and crew have been safely evacuated from the aircraft. There are no reported injuries. The southern runway was closed for a short period and has now reopened.
"Our teams are working with the emergency services to re-open the northern runway as quickly as possible. The temporary closure is likely to result in a number of cancelled flights throughout the day and passengers are advised to check the flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport."
The Metropolitan Police said: "Police at Heathrow assisted in the response to the emergency landing. It is not being treated as a terrorist incident at this time."
London Fire Brigade added: "One crew from Heathrow fire station is assisting Heathrow Airport's fire service with an aircraft fire.
"We believe the fire is now out."
