HMS Westminster hosts Chief of Navy RNZN

As part of the continued UK-NZ bilateral defence relationship, members of HMS Westminster Ship's Company hosted the New Zealand Chief of Navy accompanied by Second Sea Lord.

VAdm Jonathan Woodcock OBE and RAdm John Martin RNZN were met at the gangway by Lieutenant Commander Chris L’Amie (Senior Naval Officer) before touring the ship led by Lt Ben Slater (Deputy Weapon Engineering Officer).

With the New Zealand Navy undergoing a similar programme in the future to upgrade various weapon systems including Radars, Sonars, ESM and Missile system the emphasis of the visit focused on aspects of constructive work regarding Sea Ceptor and the impact of this on the ship.

The visit was an enormous success and an opportunity for Westminster’s crew to showcase the work that will ensure HMS Westminster will emerge from Upkeep as one of the most capable frigates in the fleet.

Lt Slater said: “It was an honour to show RAdm Martin around the ship at this very exciting time.

"With the ship well advanced in the installation of Sea Ceptor, HMS Westminster was the ideal platform to demonstrate the impact of the Type 23 mid life update programme.”
