IDEX 2013: WFEL and KMW join forces
The show (17 – 21 February) marks the first time the two companies have exhibited together since the acquisition of British-based WFEL in 2012 by KMW, Germany’s biggest defence group.
Representatives from WFEL will be stationed at KMW’s stand, sharing information and showing a model of the company’s flagship product, the Dry Support Bridge (DSB).
As the world’s longest unreinforced bridge, the DSB can span gaps of up to 46 metres to offer an efficient temporary bridging solution. Able to withstand repeated loads of up to 120 tonnes, it can be rapidly deployed by a team of eight and a single launch vehicle to support rolling traffic in less than 90 minutes.
KMW specialises in the design of tracked and wheeled military vehicles including air-transported wheeled vehicles, reconnaissance, anti-aircraft and artillery systems and the world-renowned Leopard main battle tank.
Max Houghton, sales and marketing director, WFEL, said: “IDEX presents the first opportunity for WFEL and KMW to showcase our combined service offering.
“Our suite of bridging systems has the great advantage of being available for dual use; in the immediate support of emergency and disaster relief situations and for combat operations. Our wet or dry gap crossing capability neatly complements KMW’s vehicle portfolio, providing a ‘force multiplier’ and a comprehensive mobility solution for modern armed forces.”
