Marlborough manufactures key fixtures for Embraer KC-390
Marlborough Engineering - based in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter - supplies high specification precision machined components and large scale fabrications to customers primarily in aerospace market but supply to a range of industrial sectors that include power generation, automotive and scientific.
Embraer with headquarters in Brazil is one of the top global aerospace companies producing commercial, military and executive aircraft. The KC-390 is a new military transport aircraft, one of the largest planes that Embraer have ever developed. The aircraft is designed to transport up to 21 tonnes of cargo including armoured vehicles.
Marlborough has manufactured the wing and spar checking fixtures for the KC-390. These are very large and very high precision fixtures, up to 20 metres in length. Marlborough has now successfully completed their phase of this challenging six month build project. The fixtures have be installed at MIC in the UK where they will be used for up to 12 months following that Marlborough will dismantle them where they will be transported and re- installed at Embraer’s facility in Portugal where the KC-390 wings are being manufactured.
The fixtures were designed by Pacifica Engineering (MTorres America) based in Seattle. The project highlights the amazing international nature of the high technology aerospace industry – The plane is being developed in Brazil, the fixtures were designed in Seattle, manufactured in Ireland and now being delivered to Portugal for wing production. Marlborough thanks all the partners that have been involved in this project.
Marlborough welcomed a number of Embraer personnel throughout the manufacturing process working alongside their engineering team discussing and resolving technical issues that go hand in hand with such a project as this.
