Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group to tender for new runway at Cambridge
It is embarking on this as it prepares to enhance its infrastructure in readiness for bolstered business aviation and international scheduled airline activity. The new runway will be capable of handling up to Boeing 767/VIP sized aircraft.
Just last week Cambridge Airport opened a dedicated new £1 million new passenger terminal, complete with a JETability branded VIP business lounge. It features a spacious check in area, all new IT infrastructure, security screening and coffee shop. It opened in time to welcome seasonal charter flights to Jersey last week and today in Geneva, on the opening day of Europe’s premier aviation show, EBACE, the airport is pleased to announce the start of four new scheduled routes by European regional alliance carrier Darwin Airline SA of Switzerland.
Effective September 2nd this year, Geneva-based Darwin will launch direct services from Cambridge to Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Milan Malpensa and Geneva. Timings will enable worldwide connections to the global networks of SkyTeam partners Alitalia and Air France-KLM under a codeshare arrangement with Alitalia. Darwin has pledged 24 weekly flights to and from Amsterdam; 12 weekly to Paris CDG, eight weekly to Milan Malpensa and six weekly flights to and from Geneva. Flights will be operated by the Saab 2000, the quiet and efficient high-speed turboprop.
Steve Jones, managing director of Marshall ADG Aviation Services said: “The opening of this new and exciting base by Darwin Airline is a strategic step in our development of Cambridge as we create a thriving regional international airport, to complement our growing business aviation activity. As an established and renowned regional carrier in Europe, we believe that Darwin Airline is the perfect partner for Cambridge Airport going forward, offering long term expertise, award-winning service and global connectivity.”
