MIDEST puts focus on value of subcontract sector

According to new research, the subcontract manufacturing sector in the European Union has an annual turnover of nearly half a trillion Euros.

The research was carried out by MIDEST, the world’s leading industrial subcontracting show, which takes place this year from 4 to 7 November at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre.

The figures are calculated based on an expert analysis of the National Statistical Returns of the member companies and show that the EU subcontracting sector contributes annual sales of €466.35 billion to the economies of its member countries.

The research also shows that the industry involves 419,201 companies with a total of 4.519 million employees.

For the 15 original member states of the European Union, where the statistics are considered to be more precise, the overall value of the subcontracting sector in 2013 was €389.88, a decrease of 3.9% compared with 2012.

The full statistics will be published during the show, but on the basis of the 2012 figures the top five subcontracting nations in the EU – with turnover in brackets – were Germany (€127.91Bn), France (€70.71Bn), Italy (€44.64Bn), the UK (€41.08Bn) and Spain (€34.67Bn).

Despite the slight reduction in industry activity, there will be over 1,700 exhibitors at this year’s MIDEST, and more demand than ever for them to be as competitive as possible on price, service and added value.

MIDEST covers the whole spectrum of industrial subcontracting, with national and international pavilions and dedicated villages covering forming and fabrication, casting and forging, turning and machining, plastics and composites, electronics and product finishing.

The featured region at this year’s event is Normandy, while the featured country is Tunisia. There will also be a strong focus, both in the exhibits and in the free conference programme, on the aerospace sector – one of Europe’s most dynamic and important industries.

MIDEST takes place at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre, which has direct rapid transit connections to the Eurostar Terminus at the Gare Du Nord and Charles de Gaulle Airport.
