MSS Global awarded CB status by UKAS

MSS Global has been awarded accredited Certification Body (CB) status by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) for their maritime and land security assurance programmes.

Following Pilot audits and Certifications for ISO PAS 28007 (maritime), and AmericanNational Standards Institute (ANSI) /ASIS Private Security Company (PSC) 1 (land) as part of the UKAS Certification Pilot Programme, MSS Global, as the private security sector specialists, are the only CB accredited by UKAS to assess the management systems of both the Land and Maritime Security Industries that operate in the high risk and emergent markets.

As a UKAS accredited Certification Body, MSS Global’s CB status will allow it to assess all private security companies – both land and maritime, for their compliance towards a high qualityManagement System within that Private Security Company including ISO 9001, 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and 14001 (Environmental Management System) by the middle of the year.

Tony Chattin (above), the managing director of MSS Global said: “This is excellent news and a worthy achievement for the company. We have been working very hard with the Maritime Security Sector through the inception and delivery of ISO28000 and 28007. The award of our UKAS accreditationvalidates our judgement, and allows us to formally certify those PMSC’s that have achieved this credible international benchmark of competence by providing them with UKAS accredited certification. This process to date has taken much work, involving significant contribution frommany others across the maritime security sector, such as the UK’s Security in Complex Environments Group (SCEG), UK HMG, BIMCO, and the Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI).”

Tony Phipps, director of MSS Global Business Development, said, “We have worked extremely hard with the Private Maritime and Land Security Industries in their application of competent, accountable management systems. Driven by shipping industry awareness, uptake in the maritime industry has been swift, and continues to grow. The scale of security operations in the land environment is much broader; yet the need to demonstrate an effective approach is just as important. MSS Global is providing this assurance of the Private ‘Land’ security industry through accredited certification.”

UKAS define Accreditation as ‘a formal, third party recognition of competence to perform specific tasks. It provides a means to identify a proven, competent evaluator so that the selection of acertification body is an informed choice. UKAS accreditation means the evaluator can demonstrate to its customer that it has been successful at meeting the requirements of international accreditation standards.

Anthony Rix, director Maritime Security, Salamanca Risk said: “ISO PAS 28007 accreditation is an important milestone for Salamanca Risk Management in the delivery of Maritime Security services. In seeking to deliver high quality services, it was important that our processes were scrutinised bya third party against a common, internationally accepted standard. MSS Global provided that scrutiny and ISO PAS 28007 the standard. Both Salamanca and our clients can now be confident that our processes are effective, compliant with regulations and subject to on-going internal and external scrutiny in order find room for further improvement.”

Richard Walker, the strategic director of SSI, stated that the rigor of the MSS Global audit process had without question strengthened SSI’s service offering, with its Security Management System having been adjudged by MSS Global as having numerous strong points. This has already had a positive and reassuring impact upon ongoing client discussions.

“Having now successfully achieved ISO/PAS 28007 Accredited Certification there is no doubt that this represents a significant milestone in ensuring Ship Security International Ltd (SSI) continues to meet its vision of being the ‘Natural Choice for Maritime Security’ for its growing client base.”

Richard Walker went onto say: “Now the challenge will be to maintain the momentum that the introduction of the ISO/PAS 28007 standard has achieved and to ensure that the ultimate goal of a single internationally recognised standard becomes the benchmark that everyone can trust. Crucially, this will help to eliminate the duplication of having to undertake both bespoke client and Flag State due diligence.”
