NIITEK and Chemring Australia recognised in Australian Defence Industry Awards

The awards recognise the close relationship between Defence and Industry that is required to deliver complex military acquisition projects in a timely and cost effective manner.
Project NINGAUI won the ADM Excellence in Project Management Award for a Rapid Acquisition, and later in the evening also won the top prize – the Essington-Lewis Trophy for the Small to Medium Industry and Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) team of the year. In presenting the award the chief executive officer of the DMO, Mr Warren King, drew particular attention to the work of the industry partners who delivered the Protected Route Clearance Capability to the Australian Defence Forces currently operating in Afghanistan, and in a significantly compressed timeframe.
Chemring played a significant role in the design and development of the system which is fitted with NIITEK’s state of the art Ground Penetrating Radar system, now in service with a number of allied countries including the US, Canada and most recently acquired by Spain. Chemring Australia’s involvement has been to work closely with the Project Office in Australia, and arranging the provision of spare parts and Field Service Representatives through NIITEK.
The two companies have forged a close bond through the project. Mark Hender, managing director of Chemring Australia said: “Being able to support the Project through our close links with NIITEK has been a real asset.
“The project office has really appreciated having a local Chemring presence to provide them with timely assistance.”
Juan Navarro, President of NIITEK said: “Our success with the Australian Protected Route Clearance Capability is a great example of how Chemring companies can work collaboratively to benefit both international customers and the Group.” “This relationship is a great model for cooperation in the Group and we look forward to further strengthening our ties as we develop the sustainment solution for the Australian customer.”
The Essington-Lewis trophy is named in honour of pre-eminent Australian industrialist Essington Lewis who, among other roles, was Australia’s Director General of Munitions Production and Director General of Aircraft Production during WWII.
