NSC simulator supports Kuwaiti Condor crews

A specialist simulator designed by military vehicle and gunnery training expert NSC is helping the Kuwait Ministry of Interior to master its modernised fleet of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).

Placing crews at the controls of a virtual Condor APC, the innovative system allows members of the Gulf state’s security force to collectively familiarise themselves with the vehicle’s advanced defensive armament technology.

NSC’s simulation replicates the functionality of the upgraded 4x4’s RMTS [Remote Multi-purpose Turret System], which has been designed by ADWS Global Ltd to deliver maximum protection to those responding to incidents or conducting surveillance or counter-insurgency operations.

The classroom-based system features stations for the Condor’s driver, commander and gunner, with each crew member able to see the movements and effects of their own and others’ actions as they exercise target acquisition and engagement sequences.

Harnessing commercial off-the-shelf technologies, the hi-tech trainer emulates situational awareness and shot-detection sensors and can be networked to allow up to three crews to train together in a collective scenario.

The performance and progress of each trainee can be easily monitored, with instructors able to control which scenario is running, view individuals’ training history and review statistical data such as rounds fired and time taken to complete a mission.

NSC previously provided Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior with a virtual environment for the training of Desert Chameleon armoured personnel carrier crews and its latest support builds on a 20-year working relationship with the Gulf state.

Since 1996, the Surrey-based company has assisted Kuwait’s Armed Forces in developing its military leaders of the future through the provision of computer-assisted decision-making exercises at the Mubarak Al Abdullah Joint Command and Staff College.

NSC, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, was the first UK company to switch on to the advantages of computer-based wargaming and was responsible for introducing the technology to the former British Army Staff College.

It has developed and delivered an innovative array of simulation systems, computer models and software to enhance the training of personnel of all ranks.

The firm’s enduring support of the UK military has spanned operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and its highly-successful JCOVE [Joint Combat Operations Virtual Environment] has trained more than 18,000 troops for overseas deployments and saved the British Army millions of pounds in ammunition, vehicle track mileage and maintenance costs.

JCOVE continues to play a role in the training of UK Regular and Reserve personnel and can be used by units for experimentation, concept development and to hone tactics, techniques and procedures. Recent benefactors of the technology include 1st Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and 1 Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps.

At higher levels of command, the training, simulation and consultancy specialist’s JOCASTS [Joint Operations Command and Staff Training System], which delivers a mix of virtual incidents and live feeds and can be customised to feature specific threats and actions, is routinely used to test senior commanders’ plans.
