NSC supporting brains behind British Army brawn
The training simulation and consultancy specialist has been contracted to help the Ministry of Defence’s newly established Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research (CHACR) reach full operational capability by the end of 2015.
Working alongside select partners from academia and industry, NSC will provide technical and project management support to the Army think-tank, which is tasked with informing military doctrine and force development and becoming a hub for the generation of soldier-scholars.
The Surrey-based company will also help the Centre to forge a network of military, academic and professional subject matter experts capable of constructively challenging conventional wisdom and encouraging innovative thought.
CHACR is the brainchild of the Chief of the General Staff, Gen Sir Nick Carter, and is headed from Sandhurst by Maj Gen (Retd) Andrew Sharpe, a prominent strategist whose 34 years of military service spanned nine operational tours and saw him command on operations in all ranks from second lieutenant to brigadier general.
Christopher Smith, Head of Consultancy at NSC, said the award of the CHACR contract demonstrates the high calibre of the firm’s services and its reputation for supporting defence decision-makers.
He added: “We have an enviable mix of analysts and former Service personnel, which allows us to deal with the intricacies of decision-support studies and ask the intelligent questions. It has seen us forge long-standing associations with the UK’s prominent defence agencies.
“The quality of our people sees us routinely commissioned by the Defence Human Capability Science and Technology Centre, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and MoD to conduct research and offer recommendations.”
NSC contributes to research across domains as diverse as cyber intelligence, simulation technologies and dismounted soldier systems, with its expertise helping to inform procurement choices and Strategic Defence and Security Review options.
