Pilgrims' eGuarding scoops 2014 Security Excellence Award for training

The interactive, online training programme, eGuarding, developed by international security specialist Pilgrims Group, has won the Security Excellence Award (SEA) for Security Training Initiative of the Year.

This is the second win for the company in three years, with Pilgrims reaching the finals in the training category on all three occasions.

The award, presented by comedian Alistair McGowan at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, before Christmas, celebrates innovation and achievement in security training in all sectors of the discipline.

Since its launch in 2013, Pilgrims' eGuarding has provided its manned guarding personnel with stimulating training which increased their efficiency and service to clients by 40%.

David Freear, Pilgrims Group Chief Operating Officer, explains: “We developed eGuarding in response to a number of challenges within the manned guarding industry. These include the lack of continuous training available to guards, who may not be up to speed with standard operating procedures, together with the routine and monotony of the role. All these factors can ultimately mean guards may not be as alert and ready to deal with emergencies as they could be.”

The eGuarding training system was developed to be simple, strongly visual, engaging and interactive, covering all the key skills and competencies required. Guards can complete the course around their jobs.

“We sought to create something which challenges guards to think, to understand how their roles fit into the wider picture and provide regular assessments and practice,” said Freear. “We wanted our guards to feel more motivated and further engaged with our clients’ businesses and therefore not just happier at work but, crucially, more responsive.”

Pilgrims was also a finalist in the awards’ Customer Care Initiative of the Year category for its 360 Customer Care scheme.

The company previously won the Training Initiative of the Year Award following success in 2012 for a training scheme the company developed for the British Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
