Plextek showcasing its defence tech innovations at DSEI 2015
The defence team will be focusing on an embedded sensor package designed to assess the condition of armour on the front-line, which is a Plextek Consulting and CDE project that demonstrates a technique for checking the integrity of ceramic body armour to ensure it has not been compromised or damaged, removing the need for periodic return to manufacturer for x-ray examination.
The company will also highlight an electronically-controlled adaptive camouflage for land vehicles and unmanned air systems it is working on with two potential applications, one with Dstl for small UAS and the other with MoD for land vehicles (and other high-value static, ground assets).
Low-SWaP, an Unattended Ground Sensor (UGS) that has been adapted from commercial smart parking solutions, which Plextek believes has great utility in the Defence market, will be on show, as will its 60GHz beam-steerable antenna for non-line of sight communications to small UAS in urban environments – for the Dstl-funded Autonomous Systems Underpinning Research programme, developing covert, high bandwidth communications for UAS operating in a in a non-line of sight (NLOS) environment.
