RootMetrics launches mobile performance report for London City Airport

Independent mobile analytics company, RootMetrics, has today published a report revealing mobile internet performance for the four major mobile network operators in London City Airport.

EE ranked as the top-performing network for mobile internet performance at London City Airport. This completes a hat-trick of victories at UK airports, with EE also winning the RootMetrics awards for mobile internet performance during recent testing at Heathrow and Gatwick. O2 and Three tied for second place at London City, with Vodafone ranking fourth. At Heathrow, EE came out on top, with Vodafone, O2, and Three tying for second place. At Gatwick, EE won the Mobile Internet RootScore Award and was followed by Vodafone, Three, and O2, respectively.

EE’s median download and upload speeds at London City Airport were considerably faster than those of any other network. EE recorded a median download speed of 16.1 Mbps and a blistering median upload speed of 26.2 Mbps. EE’s closest competitors in download speed testing at London City were O2 and Vodafone, which recorded comparable median download speeds of 7.2 Mbps and 6.5 Mbps, respectively, while Three recorded the second fastest median upload speed at 10.2 Mbps.

RootMetrics testing observed faster median upload speeds for each of the major networks at London City compared to the speeds observed at Heathrow and Gatwick. This is good news for passengers sending files before travel, uploading pictures to social media websites, or uploading videos.

Strong mobile internet performance at airports is increasingly important as businesses expect their employees to be online and responsive right up to take-off. Consumers want faster speeds too, because waiting in the world’s busiest airports can leave people looking for distractions and eager to share their flight status with friends and family.

The results from thousands of RootMetrics scientific, independent, and consumer-focused tests are distilled into RootScores that let you compare the networks at a glance. The higher the Mobile Internet RootScore, the better the mobile internet speed and reliability. The following table shows how each operator performed at London City.

Bill Moore, CEO RootMetrics, said: “Travellers in the UK can now get a better idea of mobile internet performance while travelling and during delays at the UK’s busiest airports. Our testing at London City showed impressive performances from multiple operators, especially EE, which recorded the fastest median download and upload speeds, while winning its third consecutive Mobile Internet RootScore Award to date at a UK airport.”
