Serco seals $2.5bn US Navy CANES fleet modernisation contract

Serco has been awarded a Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract by the US Navy, worth $2.5 billion over an eight-year period of performance.

Serco will leverage its Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) expertise to perform hardware integration, system configuration, software installation and testing at the Serco Integration Facility (SIF) in San Diego, California.

"The CANES programme is a key component of Serco's C4ISR market strategy and continues our over 10 year working relationship with Program Executive Office C4I and SPAWAR," said Dan Allen, Serco Inc.'s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Utilising our C4ISR capabilities, Serco is demonstrating its ability to effectively deliver value on the Navy's highest volume and most complex system production programmes."

This Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) contract supports the Navy's CANES acquisition as it transitions from low-rate into full-rate production. CANES is modernising the Fleet by consolidating five legacy networks into one open, modular, and scalable Local Area Network (LAN) system. The CANES system reduces the infrastructure footprint and its associated costs while increasing reliability, security, interoperability and application hosting to meet current and projected Warfighter requirements.

Serco delivers lifecycle sustainment engineering, systems integration, hardware procurement, software development, technical support, installation and testing, operations and maintenance solutions.
