Smiths Detection secures $20m chemical detector order from US Army

Smiths Detection has announced a $20 million follow-on production order from the US Army under the Department of Defense's Joint Chemical Agent Detector (JCAD) programme.

The JCAD is based on Smiths Detection's Lightweight Chemical Detector (LCD) product line of advanced, lightweight threat detection devices that are handheld or easily strapped to a belt.

The LCD solution protects military personnel, police and hazmat responders by alerting operators if toxic substances and dangerous chemicals are detected.

Tom Brown, Director of Business Development, Smiths Detection, said: “This order underscores the success of the LCD, which is used by weapon inspectors, civil responders and military forces worldwide. Equally so, the JCAD program has established itself as one of the most effective chemical warfare protection solutions for US troops in history.”
