Smiths Detection supplies RadSeeker for Canadian Border Security

Smiths Detection has won an order for RadSeeker - its next-generation, portable radiation detector and identifier - from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

The hand-held devices will be used to enhance security and screening measures throughout Canada, including key entry points at Montreal, Vancouver, and Halifax.

RadSeeker provides a superior capability to distinguish radiological and nuclear threats from naturally occurring radiation or other legitimate radiological materials by utilising its advanced software.

Lance Roncalli, Smiths Detection’s Vice President of Sales, Americas, said: “RadSeeker is best-in-class technology to help Canada protect its citizens from nuclear and radiological threats while maintaining a free flow of trade.  Its technological advantages, exceptional reliability and Smiths Detection’s globally-recognised service and training, make it a cost-efficient way to detect radiation threats at Canada’s borders.”

RadSeeker is deployed by governments around the world, helping resolve nuclear threat alarms during screening of cargo containers at borders and points of entry. It was originally developed with support, in part, from the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), a jointly staffed agency within the US Department of Homeland Security.
