Smiths Detection unveils mobile cargo scanner
Smiths Detection has unveiled a next-generation X-ray cargo scanner that is smaller, more cost effective and designed for easier operation in the field than traditional mobile systems.
Unlike standard radioactive source-based systems, the HCVM e uses the power of a 4MeV X-ray accelerator and can scan loaded cargo containers with a steel penetration of 200mm (eight inches). HCVM e is also fuel-efficient, highly manoeuvrable, and light enough to be driven without any need for a US Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Mal Maginnis, President of Smiths Detection, said: “With budgets cut and screening environments for customs and border police increasingly complex and limited in space, this system sets a new standard in every respect. It is the only one of its kind with no CDL required to drive or operate in the United States and its small footprint makes it the ideal for screening in city and other confined environments.”
Smiths Detection offers advanced security solutions in civil and military markets worldwide, developing and manufacturing government-regulated technology products that help detect and identify explosives, chemical and biological agents, radiological and nuclear threats, weapons, narcotics and contraband.
