Steve Wadey joins QinetiQ as CEO
Steve (above) joins QinetiQ from MBDA, a missile systems business, where he was appointed Managing Director of its UK business at the age of 33 and was Technical Director of the wider group.
As CEO of QinetiQ, Steve Wadey will lead over 5,000 employees based principally in the UK as well as in the US, Belgium, and Australia. He will draw on his understanding of the defence sector, his international experience and his track record of developing new collaborative ways of working with customers and industry to drive the next stage of QinetiQ’s Organic-Plus strategy for growth.
Steve will continue in his role leading the Defence Growth Partnership (DGP) – a partnership between the UK defence sector and Government – as its co-chair alongside the Minister for Business and Enterprise.

Aged 45, Steve has 25 years’ experience in the defence industry at MBDA and British Aerospace, which he joined after achieving a first class degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Institute of Engineering & Technology and in 2014 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
While at MBDA he developed new collaborative ways of working with customers and industry through the establishment of Team Complex Weapons and also has international experience, working closely with the French and New Zealand Governments most recently.
