Darchem Engineering is a subsidiary of the quoted US Company Esterline and is based in Stillington, Stockton-On-Tees. Darchem has recognised the significance of the potential opportunities in both nuclear new build and decommissioning and has invested in a purpose designed £8M facility specifically to accommodate fabrications for the nuclear industry.  Recent success has been the award of a £50M contract from Sellafield for over 1000 Duplex Intermediate Level Waste containers.  Darchem also has significant experience of manufacturing exhaust and ventilation products for other markets including hilighly regulated industries such as oil and gas and aerospace. As a result their nuclear experience and manufacturing pedigree are a perfect fit with Studsvik’s design and engineering capabilities.

The collaboration between Studsvik and Darchem will enable the companies to offer a complete engineering solution to the marketplace, encompassing design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of nuclear ventilation solutions, hence offering customers the opportunity to procure all of their engineering, hardware and installation needs from one source. This will ensure that customers can reduce unnecessary interfaces between multiple supplier organisations, giving real benefits to the customer in terms of quality, costs and lead time.

Ian Brown, Implementation Manager at Studsvik said: “We recognised the need to enhance our full life cycle offering by forming a close relationship with a manufacturing organisation that has extensive experience within the nuclear environment.  We believe one of the major benefits of having such an arrangement in place is providing a one stop shop for our customers. We have therefore formed a formal partnership with Darchem Engineering.”

Billy Meijer, Managing Director at Darchem Engineering said: “The partnership with Studsvik is an exciting next step in the successful implementation of our overall strategy for expansion in the Nuclear Industry.  Studsvik has a respected position within the nuclear market and a particular expertise in Nuclear Ventilation.
