The Shield Group raises funds for Greater Manchester Police VPCS

The UK's largest independent total security solutions company, The Shield Group, recently hosted a glittering charity gala dinner, in aid of the Greater Manchester Police Volunteer Police Cadet Scheme (VPCS), at the Imperial War Museum.

The event (on 27 February) demonstrated The Shield Group's continued support of the scheme, recognising its important work with local communities.

The event was hosted by popular Sky News broadcaster, Johnny Gould and saw in attendance over 170 guests, ranging from international entrepreneurs to local business people, community leaders, public figures and VIPs. Guest of Honour was Sir Peter Fahy, QPM Chief Constable of Greater Manchester, who was joined by TV personalities Tony Morris and Matt O’Donoghue, Ian Stewart, elected Mayor of Salford, and Theresa Grant, Chief Executive of Trafford Borough Council. In addition, the Cadets were present with five Cadet Leaders from GMP and ten local Cadets, who took responsibility for distributing raffle tickets and checking silent auction bids.

The highlight of the evening was a traditional auction, a silent auction and a raffle, where guests had the chance of winning an impressive range of ‘money can’t buy’ prizes. The array of prizes ranged from a corporate training day with the Salford Red Devils, which was won by The Shield Group’s Regional Director Mr Paul King, who then went on to generously donate the prize to the Greater Manchester Police VPCS. The 10 cadets present at the event were delighted when informed that they would be attending the training day.

Other prizes included dinner at the House of Lords, a holiday in Marbella, an all expenses trip to Barcelona, a VIP tour of the Coronation Street set to watch some scenes being filmed, a day of filming with TV show Most Haunted, where presenter Yvette Fielding will conduct a séance for two people, a day at the stables with Dr Marwan Koukash and a VIP day at Haydock races for four people. Over £20,000 was raised at the event and funds will support the Greater Manchester Police VPCS’s important work with 13 to 18 year-olds across all communities of Greater Manchester.

The prestigious event marked The Shield Group’s commitment towards the North of the UK. With its regional headquarters based in the metropolitan hub of Manchester, the company is keen to continue to support this part of the country, both from a business and community perspective. Regional Director of The Shield Group, Paul King, comments: “As we live in the communities within which we operate it is absolutely right and proper that we strive to play our part assisting to improve them where possible, inevitably this will involve support of local causes and the Greater Manchester Police VPCS is a very worthy one. The VPCS targets 13 to 18 year-olds and creates in them a real pride in their local communities whilst providing a series of useful skill sets along the way. The discipline and focus the Cadet Leaders instil in these young Cadets will benefit them for the rest of their lives.”
