UK MoD appoints CGI to help transform training for British Army Signallers

CGI has been selected by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to provide Training Needs Analysis (TNA) at the Defence College of Technical Training as part of an ongoing programme to transform training and education.

As part of the four-month assessment, CGI will deliver a range of recommendations for further improvement of training practices for British Army Signallers - communications specialists who operate radios, networks and telecommunications equipment. The project will aim to identify areas of the training programme that will benefit from a more digitally focused strategy, focusing on introducing blended learning, a combination of e-learning, classroom education and complementary self-learning programmes.

The pilot project will analyse the Royal Signals Communications Systems Operator training for both regular and reserve soldiers. This model may subsequently be expanded to deliver blended training across the remainder of the military technical training schools.

Col Garry Hearn noted that: “Our current approach to training is based on traditional classroom based teaching. We have commissioned CGI to assess the areas of training that can be more effectively delivered via digital channels or blended with our existing approach to provide an improved learning experience. This is a very important step in supporting our efforts to drive digital transformation across the Ministry of Defence and provide world class training to our armed forces.”

Steve Smart, Vice President, Space, Defence, National and Cyber Security, CGI UK commented: “We are committed to supporting the Ministry of Defence in the development of new training programmes, enabling it to adapt and modernise training procedures to ensure our armed forces remain amongst the most highly skilled defence professionals in the world.”
