There was good news this week for the Welsh aerospace industry, with the Government in Wales awarding £100,000 in funding to help suppliers participate in the Supply Chain 21st Century (SC21) continuous improvement programme.

The funding will support around 20 companies in Wales join the scheme which provides a toolkit that businesses can use to improve performance, making them more competitive and attractive as suppliers.

Paul Everitt, CEO of ADS Group says: “Aerospace makes a major contribution to the Welsh economy, providing thousands of high-skill jobs across an industry which is of strategic importance to the UK and where we lead global competition.

“Since its launch, the SC21 scheme has become a recognised hallmark for efficiency. I am delighted that more businesses in Wales will now be supported in joining SC21, enabling them to become even more competitive within the international marketplace.

Supported by ADS (the SC21 governing body), Augusta Westland, Airbus, GKN Aerospace and Meggitt; the Welsh Government and Aerospace Wales will be holding a series of awareness events in the autumn to promote SC21 and provide information on the funding support available.

John Whalley, Chief Executive, Aerospace Wales Forum says: “The aerospace industry is facing major opportunity and it’s important that supply chains are well-placed to meet the associated challenges. SC21 has been proven to deliver improvements in performance and this funding from the Welsh Government is a welcome boost for companies looking to grow.”
