Ontic has announced the launch of CargoCare, a new family of Ontic MRO services designed to help cargo operators keep their aircraft flying.

The first offering in the CargoCare portfolio is an Exchange & Overhaul programme for Boeing 747 leading edge flap drive units, which is a component that operators have found difficult to turn around quickly when an unexpected removal occurs.

For cargo fleets, every hour an aircraft spends on the ground is lost revenue, a challenge that Ontic says CargoCare is built to address.

When an operator removes a leading edge flap drive unit and sends it to Ontic, a serviceable replacement is immediately dispatched from an exchange pool, with exchange times starting from as little as 48 hours.

How dedicated MRO services play a key role in ensuring faster turnarounds

The removed unit is then overhauled at Ontic’s MRO facility in Tewkesbury, UK and returned to the pool, creating a continuous rotation of ready units for customers on the programme.

Ontic says each CargoCare package is tailored to an operator’s fleet and requirements. Customers can choose between a dedicated or shared exchange pool, giving them the option of coverage without needing to carry unnecessary spare inventory. The programme also offers flat-rate overhaul costs, extended warranty and responsive support from Ontic hubs across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Dave Mayne, MRO Director for Europe & Asia at Ontic, said: “Cargo operators can’t afford to have aircraft sitting on the ground waiting for a part to come back from overhaul. CargoCare takes that uncertainty away. Operators get a serviceable unit quickly, at a cost they can plan around and a package built on how their fleet operates. It’s a clear example of how our dedicated MRO capability allows us to go beyond repair and create programmes that deliver real value to our customers for a lifetime of flight.”

The 747 leading edge flap drive programme is the first of several planned CargoCare offerings. Ontic intends to extend the model to further platforms and parts as it continues to invest in its MRO portfolio.
