Aviation Pride UK launches The APUK Scholarship

Aviation Pride UK (APUK) has launched The APUK Scholarship, a new initiative designed to help fund aviation futures by providing financial support towards training, education and development across the aviation sector.

The scholarship marks an important milestone for the charity. Guided by the campaign message, ‘Fund your aviation future’, applications for The APUK Scholarship opened on 1st August 2026.

Inclusiveness and accessibility

Since becoming a registered charity in 2023, APUK has worked towards providing direct financial support to help people pursue opportunities across aviation, while helping make aviation more accessible, inclusive and safe for the LGBTQ+ community.

Recognising that pursuing opportunities in aviation can involve significant financial commitment, The APUK Scholarship has been created to help members take the next step towards their ambitions by contributing towards the cost of training, education, qualifications and other aviation-related development.

The scholarship reflects the diversity of today’s aviation sector. Applications are not limited to commercial pilot training and may include recreational flying, engineering, education, professional development, airport operations, air traffic management, cabin crew, safety, aerospace and many other aviation-related disciplines.

Funding criteria

Funding may be awarded in full or in part, depending on the application and the funding available. Every application will be considered on its individual merits by APUK’s Scholarship Committee before recommendations are made to the charity’s Board of Trustees.

Richard Walker, Vice-Chair of Aviation Pride UK, said: “One of the reasons APUK became a registered charity was so that we could provide direct support to people pursuing their ambitions in aviation.

“The APUK Scholarship is an important milestone because it allows us to do exactly that. Whether someone is learning to fly, studying an aviation-related subject, developing professional skills or taking the next step in their career, we know that cost can sometimes be a barrier.

“Thanks to the continued support of our members and corporate partners, we’re now able to help more people move closer to achieving their aviation ambitions while continuing our work to make aviation more accessible, inclusive and safe.”

Applicants must hold an active Aviation Pride UK membership. APUK welcomes LGBTQ+ people and allies who support the charity’s aims. Those who are not already members may join through the APUK website before submitting an application.
