Smith Detection’s SDX 10080 SCT receives UK DfT approval

Smiths Detection announced today that its SDX 10080 SCT has received UK Department for Transport (DfT) approval for deployment across UK airports and cargo operators for hold baggage and air cargo screening.

The SDX 10080 SCT has been designed to balance operators’ key priorities: security effectiveness, operational performance and passenger flow.

It has a throughput of more than 1,800 bags per hour and its dual-energy Computed Tomography (CT) scanner delivers detection performance that adapts to evolving operational and regulatory demands.

The approval further reinforces Smiths Detection’s position as a trusted partner to the UK aviation sector. Its screening technologies have been deployed across airports throughout the UK and worldwide and has supported major CT screening modernisation programmes.

Andy Evripides, Head of Market, UK and Ireland at Smiths Detection, said: “With DfT approval, UK airports and cargo operators can now deploy the SDX 10080 SCT, our next-generation hold baggage and air cargo screening operations.

"We now look forward to partnering with airports and cargo operators that seek to modernise their security infrastructure to strengthen security, improve throughput and support a more positive passenger experience.”

The DfT approval follows SDX 10080 SCT’s recent ECAC EDS Standard 3.1 certification.
