CBI offers support for Stansted’s growth plans

During a behind-the-scenes tour, CBI members praised Stansted’s contribution to jobs, investment, and international connectivity in the East of England. They highlighted the airport’s importance to the local economy and pledged their backing for its sustainable growth. 
 
Serving around 30 million passengers a year, London Stansted flies directly to more European destinations than any other UK airport, in addition to a double-daily service to Dubai with Emirates allowing passengers to access the airline’s global network of over 150 destinations. With direct rail links to London, Cambridge and Peterborough, and more than 12,000 employees working for 200 on-site companies, the airport plays a vital role in connecting the region and supporting local employment.   
 
Richard Tunnicliffe, CBI East of England Regional Director, said: “London Stansted is a vital gateway for our region, helping local businesses reach international markets and supporting jobs and growth. Its plans to grow in a sustainable way will be a big boost for employers and communities across the East of England.”

Our £1.1 billion transformation will enhance the passenger experience, create thousands of new jobs, and support the region’s ambitions in a sustainable way. We were delighted to welcome CBI members and show how we’re investing in the future of the airport and the communities we serve. It was also fantastic to receive their backing for our planning application, which will deliver further sustainable growth to 51 million passengers a year, making best use of our existing single runway without any increase in flights beyond those already permitted.” 
 
London Stansted has submitted a planning application to Uttlesford District Council to increase its annual passenger limit to 51 million over the next 20 years. The application seeks permission to maximise the use of the airport’s existing single runway by the 2040s, within the current airport boundary, and without increasing the number of flights already permitted.
