New British Army accommodation built at Upavon

New bedspaces have been delivered for soldiers and officers at Trenchard Lines, Upavon, providing modern, sustainable living accommodation for British Army personnel.

At the military site in Wiltshire, 200 single en suite bedspaces are being provided for junior ranks, senior ranks and officers, across separate Single Living Accommodation (SLA) blocks. An additional 21 officer bedspaces are being delivered through refurbishment of Lord House, a heritage building adjacent to the Officers’ Mess on site.

The first two completed SLA blocks have now been handed over, providing 82 bedspaces for junior ranks. The overall project is being funded under the Army’s SLA Programme and delivered by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), contracting to Reds10 and Arcadis.

At the formal opening of the completed blocks, Brigadier Grant Kerr, the Army’s Head of Infrastructure Plans, said: “The Army is making significant investment in modern accommodation that improves the lives of our people, enhances the efficiency of the estate and underpins operational readiness.

In addition to private en suite rooms, the modular SLA provides utilities, drying rooms, kitchens and furnished communal space. The building design includes sustainable features such as solar panels and energy management systems, to support day-to-day efficiency and future energy resilience.

Delivering a sustainable infrastructure and modernising the Defence estate

Warren Webster, DIO MPP Army Programme Director, said: “The completion of the first new accommodation blocks at Upavon is another significant milestone in our work to provide quality, sustainable infrastructure for the Army. This new accommodation delivers environmental benefits, value for money and demonstrates our successful partnership with industry.”

A further two SLA blocks are under construction at Trenchard Lines to provide 69 bedspaces for senior ranks and 49 bedspaces for officers.

Construction of all new and refurbished infrastructure at Upavon is scheduled to complete next year.
