Filtronic has secured its largest ever single order from long-standing customer SpaceX, to support the continued growth of the Starlink high-speed internet service.

The order, for Filtronic’s Cerus, E-Band Gallium Nitride (GaN) Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) units, marks a significant milestone in the two companies’ partnership.

It also demonstrates the increased importance of GaN semiconductor technology for high-throughput satellite communications systems and of Filtronic’s commanding position at the leading edge of its development. Production units will start shipping throughout 2028 into early 2029.

Beyond its significance for Filtronic, the contract highlights the growing role of UK-developed technology in the global space sector.

How the contract emphasises the increasing importance of GaN tech in high-frequency comms

As demand for satellite communications infrastructure continues to increase worldwide, the award demonstrates the strength of Britain’s advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities, with a UK business supplying mission-critical technology for one of the world’s most ambitious communications networks.

Nat Edington, Chief Executive Officer, Filtronic, said: “This follow-on order from SpaceX, is another significant milestone for Filtronic, providing extended order visibility and coverage over the next couple of years.

“This order provides further evidence of the growing importance of GaN technology in high-frequency communications and reinforces Filtronic’s position at the leading edge of this transition.

“Since securing our first E-Band GaN SSPA order with SpaceX just 12 months ago, we have continued to invest in scaling our manufacturing capability and this contract is a direct validation of that strategy. It underpins our expectations for FY28 and reinforces Filtronic’s position at the leading edge of GaN semiconductor technology for satellite communications.”
