Leicester’s National Space Centre Discovery Team wins Sir Arthur Clarke Award
A team at Leicester’s National Space Centre has won a prestigious Sir Arthur Clarke Award, recognising its outstanding contribution to space education and public engagement across the UK.
The Sir Arthur Clarke Awards are organised by the British Interplanetary Society in conjunction with the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation. Presented annually since 2005, they recognise notable and outstanding achievements that support and advance space activities in the UK.
The Centre’s Discovery Team took home the Sir Arthur Clarke Award for delivering structured learning experiences on-site, online and in communities across the UK in the Education and Outreach Team category.
The team was shortlisted alongside the Airbus Defence and Space Early Careers Team and UKROC/ADS.
The award recognises the Discovery Team’s work in bringing space science to life for people of all ages, celebrating its commitment to making space accessible, engaging and inspiring for everyone.
How the delivery of meaningful learning experiences inspires interest in space exploration
Through hands-on workshops, expert-led talks, virtual learning, school visits and community outreach, the team reaches audiences far beyond the Centre’s galleries. Its work supports teachers, engages families and helps learners from all backgrounds discover how space science connects to everyday life and the world around them.

Charlotte Isham, Discovery Director at the National Space Centre, said: “This award is a wonderful recognition of the passion, expertise and dedication of our team. Every day we work to inspire curiosity and confidence in science through meaningful learning experiences, whether that’s here at the National Space Centre, online, or in communities across the UK. We are incredibly proud that this work has been recognised by our peers across the UK space sector.”
Since opening, the National Space Centre has welcomed almost six million visitors, including more than 1.5 million schoolchildren, establishing itself as a leading destination for space education and discovery.
The award highlights the Discovery Team’s impact beyond the Centre, recognising the vital role of education and outreach in inspiring people across the UK to engage with the science, technology and opportunities shaping the future of space exploration.
