Following its announcement on 14th May 2026 regarding its proposed acquisition by Intuitive Machines, Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd (Goonhilly) has confirmed that the transaction has now completed, following the satisfaction of required conditions and regulatory approvals.
Under the agreement, Goonhilly will retain its status as a UK-registered company and will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Intuitive Machines, whilst benefitting from expanded resources, enhanced technological capabilities and improved access to international markets. Support of lunar and deep space missions
As the world’s first and most experienced commercial provider of lunar and deep space communications services, Goonhilly subsequently became the first commercial provider of these services in 2021. It has supported more than 20 missions for space agencies like NASA and ESA and private exploration companies including such as Intuitive machines and ispace, representing a vital UK contribution to the international space sector.
In 2024 and 2025, the company played a critical role in Intuitive Machines’ IM-1 and IM-2 lunar missions.
How the acquisition will increase network capabilities
The acquisition strengthens Intuitive Machines’ space infrastructure service with a network of ground stations, increasing visibility across major Earth viewing arcs, enhancing contact opportunities for lunar and deep space missions and expanding capacity on the company’s space data network for communications, data transport and position, navigation and timing (PNT). In addition, Goonhilly’s and COMSAT’s civil, commercial and government customer bases complement Intuitive Machines’ existing customer base and broaden its reach into adjacent industries.

The addition of 44 antennas to Intuitive Machines’ network should provide additional support for customers’ GEO missions and accelerate progress toward Moon base and deep space operations.
Goonhilly has reaffirmed its commitment to seamless service continuity during this period and looks forward to benefitting from expanded resources, enhanced technological capabilities and improved access to international markets.
