Accomplished naval architect joins Frazer-Nash

Engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash has announced the recruitment of expert naval architect and engineering consultant Max van Someren.

Van Someren brings a wealth of experience to the submarine division of Frazer-Nash, joining the company from his position as a shipyard development consultant within the First Marine International division of Royal Haskoning. This role saw him working on the benchmarking, performance measurement and performance improvement of a wide range of shipyards.

Van Someren has a strong knowledge of best practices in engineering design and management, having practised his skills both within the UK and internationally. Besides liaising with government departments worldwide, Van Someren’s previous clients have ranged from shipbuilders and ship repairers to industry organisations. Max recently played a key role in the capability assessment of five Canadian shipyards, in support of the Canadian National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.

In addition to his time spent at Royal Haskoning, Van Someren has worked on a number of projects previously with Frazer-Nash for Airbus, before being seconded for nine months to the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA). During his time in the ACA, he worked within the structures team developing the UK’s new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers. He has also designed high speed craft for a number of clients while working for Austal in Australia.

After applying his first-class degree in naval architecture to the more practical side of the engineering world, Van Someren will now take on a business manager role in the Submarines sector of Frazer-Nash. This position will see him take on responsibilities including business development and monitoring successful project delivery.
