The latest luggage must have...a travel tuck box!

British Airways has created a commemorative travel tuck box for a number of Team GB athletes in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

They will be loaded with energy-boosting goodies including dried fruit and nutrition bars, and given to the British Swimming team when they arrive into London City Airport for the Games on July 24.

The limited edition boxes, designed by up-and-coming British illustrator Lydia Leith, will also be given away to loyal Team GB and ParalympicsGB supporters on Twitter throughout the Games, who show their support by using the hashtag #HomeAdvantage.

Leith said: “I had great fun coming up with the design and thinking of subtle touches to illustrate British Airways’ support of the athletes and the London 2012 Games. If you look closely you will notice. I’m very proud of the end result - and I can confirm that they can withstand turbulence too!”

The travel tuck box, which even features aircraft shaped windows, includes intricate drawings of London landmarks such as Big Ben, the Olympic Park and the Gherkin, interwoven with food and athlete references. It includes divers launching off a dessertspoon, a shuttlecock in a glass of wine and athletes jumping over a fork.  Each is signed and numbered by the artist.

Luisa Fernandez, British Airways sponsorship manager, said: “The tuck boxes have a commemorative feel to them using our national colours, and cleverly featuring the Games, the Capital and our role as official airline partner into the design. They really will be much-loved keepsakes.”

To coincide with the Games, British Airways is serving Olympic-inspired menus on all long-haul flights this summer. The menus were produced by Michelin star chef Simon Hulstone, who was mentored by Heston Blumenthal in the BA Great Britons programme. The menu includes popular food from 1948 – the last time the Games were held in London.
