Babcock and Rafael have successfully worked together in the delivery and maintenance of the UK MoD’s Sky Sabre system since 2017.
The collaborative approach is centred around the Sky Sabre system’s battle management, command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (BMC4I) capability based on Rafael’s MiCAD system.
Babcock recognises the market leading capability the MiCAD system offers and remains committed to collaborating further with Rafael to offer the MiCAD system beyond Sky Sabre and into the wider Land GBAD Programme.
A coherent and seamlessly integrated BMC4I system across the UK’s land GBAD capability is critical to maximising the effectiveness of its suite of sensors and effectors through fast and well-informed decision making by operators and commanders.
MiCAD can readily provide this critical function, and with a Rafael and Babcock collaboration, it can be offered via a UK-centred delivery model.
This is an exciting expansion of an already highly successful collaboration and both parties look forward to working even more closely over the coming years in support to the UK MoD’s Land GBAD programme.
The MoU was signed at last week’s Farnborough Air Show.
Simon Holford, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Director at Babcock, said: “Our existing collaborations with Rafael have proved to be highly successful.
“It makes clear sense for both parties to further develop the collaboration so that MiCAD can be readily offered into the wider Land GBAD programme – and we’re delighted to sign this Memorandum of Understanding.
“Babcock always aims to offer the best-in-class technology to its customers and Rafael’s MiCAD system is no exception, especially given the level of sovereign expertise that has been developed with the system since its implementation into Sky Sabre.”
Pini Yungman, Head of Rafael’s Air Defence Division, added: “Rafael develops systems, like MiCAD, with an open architecture method that allows for the integration of systems and components according to our customers' needs.
“We are proud to already be cooperating with a global defence leader while deepening our partnerships in the UK. We also take this opportunity to thank both teams on the successful work that has been accomplished until now with Sky Sabre and are confident in the future prospects this cooperation will bring moving forward.”
