BAIS 2014: Gulf Air signs $100m TotalCare extension with Rolls-Royce

Gulf Air Acting CEO, Maher Salman Al Musallam and Andrew Harper, Rolls-Royce, vice president - Customers, Civil Large Engines signed the agreement today at the 2014 Bahrain International Airshow in Sakhir Airbase. Gulf Air’s acting chief technical officer, Jamal Hashim and Rolls-Royce sales director, Edward Coxon, were also present at the signing.
Gulf Air’s acting CEO, Mr Al Musallam commented, “We are happy to extend our agreement with Rolls-Royce thanks to the support offered by TotalCare over the past 14 years. In addition to maximising engine availability, essential towards meeting high fleet utilisation targets, TotalCare also allows and provides forward visibility of service costs, facilitating tighter fiscal control, increasingly important as Gulf Air transitions from a period of restructuring to one of development.”
Andrew Harper, Rolls-Royce, vice president - Customers, Civil Large Engines, said: “We are pleased Gulf Air is extending TotalCare® with us and continues to see value in our support services. We look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with the airline.”
Gulf Air’s acting chief technical officer, Mr. Jamal Hashim commented, “We have had excellent experience with our Trent 700s, both in terms of operational performance and the comprehensive TotalCare service package, and we are delighted to extend this service agreement today. Gulf Air has a longstanding relationship with Rolls-Royce spanning over 40 years and today’s announcement marks a further development in our valued relationship with the company.”
The relationship between Gulf Air and Rolls-Royce stretches back to 1966, when the airline ordered a Dart-powered Fokker 27 aircraft and subsequently the RB211 engines for its Tristar Fleet. In 1999 Gulf Air operated its first A330 and today the airline operates a fleet of six A330s. The aircraft, which service Gulf Air’s long-haul destinations in Europe and Asia, are integral to the airline’s fleet.
Globally, more than 90% of Trent engines in service and on order are covered by TotalCare. The Trent 700, is specifically designed for the A330, is the market leader on the aircraft with 70% of new orders over the last four years.
