JOSCAR provides contractors in the defence sector with assurance that an accredited supplier can deliver solutions to a high quality standard.

Famed as the world’s most capable metal bending business, Barnshaws Section Benders has built a reputation in precision curving metal for the construction, transport, marine, civil and infrastructure sectors. Notable projects supported by the business include Wimbledon Centre Court roof, the Francis Crick Institute, Kew Gardens Palm House, Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the raising of the Mary Rose and the ArcelorMittal Orbit in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Greg North, Commercial Director at Barnshaws, explained relevant services: “We offer the capability to carry out heavy rolling and press braking of armour plate with high accuracy. Furthermore, we can laser and plasma cut metal plate and sections into profiles. Hot forming of pipes and plate is also available, and we specialise in tube bending. Dedicated aluminium bending facilities mean we can provide this service too. Our JOSCAR accreditation now ensures customers in the defence sector can benefit from our extensive range of metal bending services.”

JOSCAR is a joint initiative administered by Hellios, which compiles accredited suppliers within a singular directory for ease of reference for the defence sector. Designed to greatly expedite the procurement process, suppliers displaying the JOSCAR logo are accredited to stringent regulatory standards, providing visible quality assurance to customers.

Established in 1969, Barnshaws is a specialist profile bending company; supplying market sectors such as construction, power generation, mining, transport and general manufacturing with shaped beams, tubes, plate and other profile section materials. More recent developments have seen the company’s engineering expertise expand from mostly steel to non-ferrous materials including copper and aluminium as well as specialist materials such as Hardox.

Barnshaws has ISO 9001:2015 approval and was Europe’s first bending company to achieve CE Marking of curved sections to Execution class 4, the highest standard available.

With facilities in the West Midlands, Manchester, Hamilton and Poland, Barnshaws can provide precision metal bending and profile cutting services, locally, nationally and internationally.

The new warehouse at Blackthorne Point is being promoted as a rare high quality 'coolbox' opportunity for specialist temperature-controlled operators such as life sciences, food-perishables, benefiting from market-leading design specification for an occupier to thrive in a post Covid-19 world and to offer the best working environment for their staff.
