BRIDEX 2013: CAE Brunei MPTC establishes emergencies centre

Today at the Brunei International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BRIDEX), the Government of Brunei, represented by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and CAE, jointly announced that the CAE Brunei Multi-Purpose Training Centre (MPTC) Sdn Bhd will establish a comprehensive Emergency Management and Crisis Management Centre of Excellence that will support Brunei and ASEAN disaster preparedness.

The CAE Brunei MPTC's Emergency Management and Crisis Management Centre of Excellence will support the Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs and Brunei National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) in training and preparing for various forms of local and regional emergencies and disasters.

"We are committed to developing and sustaining world class capabilities in Brunei to improve our preparedness when responding to emergencies, as well as contribute to reducing risks related to disasters throughout the Asia region," said Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid Mangarshah, Permanent Secretary, Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs. "Through our partnership and collaboration with the CAE Brunei Multi-Purpose Training Centre, we will invest in the professional development and training of our people to enhance our overall emergency and crisis management capabilities."

The CAE Brunei MPTC will develop a comprehensive emergency and crisis management capability and training programme. The CAE Brunei MPTC will be able to develop virtual threat scenarios for analysis and provide virtual training for complex emergency and crisis response exercises.

"A simulation-based synthetic environment is ideal for planning, preparing and training for any kind of event, particularly emergencies that require significant coordination and response from multiple government and civilian agencies," said Kevin Speed, director of the CAE Brunei MPTC.

"Our systems integration experience combined with our expertise in simulation-based training allows us to create simulation centres that ultimately will improve operational decision-making," said Gene Colabatistto, group president, Defence and Security, CAE. "We are honoured the CAE Brunei MPTC will play a role in helping ensure Brunei's leadership in the region for preparing and responding to crisis and emergencies."

The Brunei National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) was established in August 2006 under the auspices of the Disaster Management Order and is led by the Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Brunei NDMC ensures all aspects of disaster management, including mitigation and prevention, preparedness, and response and recovery, all of which are considered though policies, strategies and practices implemented and guided byinternational, regional and national commitments.

The NDMC's strategy is to enhance capacity in both response and preparedness with the main objective to build a disaster resilience community. At the regional level, the Brunei NDMC is the focal point of ASEAN's sectorial body called the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM).
